So this was the view from the passanger seat in my car for pretty much the entire day. The residents of our little town have been in absolute shock and amazement. It's not an ordinary occurance that snow falls from the skies of Southern California, so when it does happen the city is at a stand still and without a doubt Facebook is flooded with status updates of videos, pictures, and excitement.
My sister K came over today and we all headed out to Souplantation for a little lunch with the family. It's become a Sunday tradition that I have come to really enjoy. It's a brief few hours that we get to catch up and talk without being rushed with orders coming in and out with our business.
On our way home, we noticed that the slushy rain drops that were falling earlier had become a fierce flurry of snowflakes blanketing the hillsides of the roads. We were so excited that we rolleed down the windows and encouraged the boys to catch a few flakes in their tiny little hands.
After a few hours after we got home (and a few hours of some failed attempts on Dance Central) we looked outside to see that the sidewalks, rooftops, and cars were all covered in beautiful white blankets. It was definitely a sight to see and amidst the amazement we may have lost our minds for just a few moments, because before we knew it we were outside in our tank tops and flip flops making snow balls aiming at one another. It was an afternoon of irresponsible fun!
My sister and I headed out to the valley to pick up some dinner - we were all craving chicken Mami and Siopao - so she bravely drove the snowy highway to the valley. I'm telling you any shift in weather for us Californians and we seriously do NOT know how to deal - hence, the extra 40 minutes we spent bumper to bumper, ha!
She ended up sleeping over and spending some time with our family over dinner. And while she was at home hanging out with the hubby and kids, I headed over to the gym... as I promised myself. To be honest it took a huge kick in my own butt to get myself into gear. But once I actually changed into my gym clothes and grabbed my iphone and earbuds, I was excited.
I spent a good hour at the gym (I have to pace myself before I hurt myself and end up not being able to return at all for 3 months) and was realistic with my daily goals. I did 40 minutes on the treadmill and an additional 20 minutes on the stairmaster, it was great!
So I don't think my struggle will be with actually working out, I think my struggle will be more with food. I LOVE FOOD!!! So tonight after I got home, showered, and headed to bed, my stomach started to rumble. I was intensely craving the leftover dinner we had earlier today but decided to have a pear, sugar free jello, and a 100 calorie pack of ritz Crackers. Afterall, if I only end up eating the calories I worked so hard to burn off at the gym... what's the point right?
Hoping you're all keeping warm tonight.
