Day Before School Starts For The Older Boys

This afternoon the boys and I headed over to Little Tokyo in Los Angeles to take a look at the anime and Pokemon collections and of course to do a little Bento Box Accessory shopping for the upcoming lunches I'll be making. It's officially the last day of Summer Break for the boys and we thought it would be fun to give them one last hoorah!
Afterwards, we trekked onto the California Science Center a mere 15 minutes away. Many of our friends had gone recently and totally recommended that we should go, especially to the Ecosystem exhibit. I have to say, even I was in Awe! Everything was amazing and they had a great staff to explain things and interact with kids. There were a lot of hands on activities, which my boys love. And they were pretty much free to explore. The only down side of our visit was that it was still Summer Break, so I'm assuming that many parents had the same idea as we did, because the museum was PACKED! But it was okay, the weather was actually gorgeous so we didn't encounter any of those sweat smells one gets when coming in from the heat into air conditioning - BLEGH!
They boys also loved the Aviation and Space exhibit which was actually in another building, a short half a block from the original center. That was really hard for my boys to keep moving through, naturally they wanted to stop and play with every single thing, but being the "let's see everything" mommy, I had to hurry them a long to see other things.
Back at the main center, we also went through the Lost In Egypt exhibit, which I guess was interesting for the boys. They were more interested in seeing the pyramids and building techniques than they were about seeing the really cool mummies behind the red rope. I managed to get them in for a good 15 minutes while I marveled at the exhibits. Meanwhile, they tried to read the wall scriptures in the next room. Anyhow, the whole thing was a blast and I'm so glad we were able to go, even if only for a couple of hours. I might end up taking the kids on a less busy day next time, so we can actually get to see and hear about the different things without a time constriction.
We started to head home about an hour past what I had planned to avoid traffic. But this video made it all worth while!

After about an hour and a half in horrible Los Angeles traffic, we finally made into our valley. We had one more stop before heading home. We had to stop by the school and find out what classes the two older boys were assigned to. What an exciting time for all the kids, all the parents were huddled up at the school office window while the kids reunited with classmates from last year. My own boys were able to see a few friends each and they were so happy to see each other.
Well, tomorrow is officially the first day of school - weird being at the end of the week and all. Oh well! Both boys are so excited, I can't believe they'll be in the 1st and 4th grade! What the heck?? You know what this means??? This means I'm getting OLD too! HAHA!
